What Homeowners Need to Know About Radon Mitigation

New homeowners moving into home - radon mitigation for homeowners

Did you know that about 1 in 15 homes has a radon level that should be reduced through radon mitigation? Radon is a common health hazard, but it’s one that you cannot see, feel, or smell. Radon testing is necessary to determine if radon is present in your home at dangerous levels. With Green Earth Remediation, you can take action with a customized radon mitigation system that reduces indoor radon levels in your home by up to 99%.

When is radon mitigation needed?

There is not a truly “safe” level of radon, as this radioactive gas is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the second leading cause among the general population. Therefore, your goal with radon testing and mitigation should be to lower radon levels as much as possible within your home. Still, there are some key numbers to know that may prompt you to take action. The EPA has identified a radon action level of 4pCi/L at which you should have a radon mitigation system installed. However, any level above 2pCi/L can still be hazardous.

What do residential radon mitigation systems look like?

Radon mitigation systems use active soil depressurization to prevent radon gas from seeping into the home and building up inside. These systems do need to be installed in specific locations of the home to ensure that they are effective, but your system may be customized to make a minimal aesthetic impact on your home. The most prominent feature of the system will be a pipe that draws air through the soil and vents it outdoors. This pipe will extend the length of the home and end above the edge of the roof.

How long does radon mitigation last?

After installation, radon systems require minimal maintenance, and they should last for the lifetime of your home. However, it is important to continue retesting for radon every 2 years to ensure that the system is working properly.

Don’t let radon silently sneak into your home. Consult Green Earth Remediation for reliable radon mitigation services for homeowners. Our team has decades of combined experience, and our goal is to protect our surrounding community with effective radon mitigation solutions.
