High levels of radon can be found in any indoor space, including homes, office buildings, and schools in East Grand Rapids. Radon is an invisible, odorless, radioactive gas, and radon exposure can significantly increase an individual’s risk for lung cancer. The only way to know if radon levels are high is to test for it.
You should test for radon when moving into a new home, undergoing any construction or renovation project, or after installing or modifying HVAC equipment. Radon testing should also be performed periodically in Grand Rapids homes and businesses every 5 years. If high levels of radon above 4 pCi/L are detected and a radon mitigation system is installed, retesting should occur every 2 years.
Radon mitigation systems consist of a network of pipes and a fan to divert radon gas away from the foundation, where it can be safely expelled outdoors. This process neutralizes negative pressure that draws gas into homes and buildings from the surrounding soil.
There is no safe level of radon. The goal of radon mitigation should be to achieve radon levels comparable to the outdoors at about 2 pCi/L or less.
There is no legal requirement in Michigan to test for radon when selling a home. However, many buyers will request radon testing if a test has not been performed within the last 2 years or if the test was not performed by a professional.

A radon mitigation system was installed to address elevated radon levels. The system was designed to be discreet, extending to the back corner of the home to avoid visibility from the street. The radon extraction pipe was routed through the basement, connecting to the sump crock to ensure effective negative pressure beneath the entire basement area. This setup prevents radon from entering the living space, enhancing indoor air quality. The system was carefully installed to maintain efficiency and reliability, providing long-term protection against radon exposure.

Just finished installing a radon system here in EGR. This homeowner did their own radon test that showed high levels of radon gas, they researched our company and decided to have us install the radon mitigation system. This radon system is working well based off of the levels shown from the manometer on the system pipe located in the basement.
This radon job was a big project but we got it done and everything went well. The system has two suction points and the system pipe goes through the foundation wall of the home and then into the basement. The system has a good pressure on the manometer located above the first suction point and shows a good pressure, telling us the system is working well. The vacuum pressure indicates there’s a good amount of air flow along a large area underneath the basement slab.
