Radon Mitigation

What Is Radon Mitigation?

Radon is an odorless, colorless, radioactive gas that exists all around us. As radioactive materials break down in the soil, radon gas is emitted and can seep into homes and buildings, where it builds up in concentration without any noticeable signs. Unfortunately, radon exposure can cause significant health risks. Two widespread studies have definitively linked radon exposure to an elevated lung cancer risk, making radon the second leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking.

The only way to know if your home or business has elevated radon levels is to test for it. If the test indicates high levels of radon, radon mitigation is the only solution to restoring your indoor air quality and ensuring the health of everyone in your home, office, or commercial building. Green Earth Remediation can design and install an effective radon mitigation system that reduces radon levels by up to 99%. There is no truly safe level of radon, so the goal of radon mitigation is to simply reduce indoor radon levels as much as possible to levels comparable with natural environments outdoors.

Radon Mitigation for Homeowners

About 6 million homes in the U.S. have radon levels above 4 pCi/L, the level at which the EPA recommends radon mitigation. Investing in remediation will ensure the ongoing safety of your home. Green Earth Remediation will tailor your radon mitigation system to the structure, size, and foundation type of your home while considering environmental factors as well.

Commercial Radon Mitigation

Radon isn’t just a threat in homes, but the risks of radon are often overlooked in commercial environments. Most people spend almost as much time at work as they do at home, making radon exposure a key health and safety concern in the workplace. Green Earth Remediation can customize radon mitigation systems for offices and commercial buildings of any size, including daycares, schools, hospitals, and residential care facilities.

Real Estate Radon Mitigation

Because radon is such a common health risk in homes throughout the U.S., radon testing is a common part of real estate inspections. High radon levels could tank a potential home sale or significantly drive down the asking price for a home on the market. Don’t let radon get in your way; count on Green Earth Remediation to restore the value of your home with radon mitigation services that are prompt, effective, and backed by post-remediation testing.

How Radon Mitigation Works

Radon mitigation systems reduce indoor radon by neutralizing the negative pressure that draws this gas into your home from the soil. Utilizing a network of pipes and a fan, the system diverts radon from under the foundation and safely expels it outdoors, ensuring a healthy, radon-free environment.

Radon mitigation systems are designed to run very efficiently, so they do not contribute much to your annual energy usage. Additionally, these systems are made to stand the test of time, continually operating with very little maintenance or upkeep required.

Fantastic service!! William and Joe were professional, friendly and made us feel at ease with our new radon mitigation system. We had no exp in this area, appreciated their explanations and patience. We walked thru our expectations (placement, piping, etc), they offered suggestions and in the end, it was better than we could have imagined. Extremely happy, highly recommended. (Matt and Zach were also great, talked on phone and did initial review/quote). Thank you all!!

Excellent experience! We needed a radon mitigation system put in and we used Schultz at both our houses. Both times they were professional, quick to schedule and very easy to work with. I was worried about the looks of it and they went above and beyond to make sure it was esthetically pleasing and what I wanted. Would highly recommend to anyone in the market for a system.

First call was based on carpenter bee’s boring holes in my house wood eves. They promptly came out, explained the process and completed plus walked around entire home looking for other areas of concern. As of 2 weeks - no bees! I then requested a radon test be done and the numbers were very high. They scheduled and completed the install to bring my levels down and then ran another test showing the results! Very friendly, very prompt, very professional.

We got a radon mitigation recently installed. The process was quick and easy. Very clean work and looks fine in our basement! Our radon levels were really high and as soon as we got our results back after installing the system, they dropped drastically! Makes us feel safer in our home knowing we have little ones and our house is pretty old! The nice part about it is you get a PDF with your results that can be sent to your email which is super convenient (:

Radon Mitigation FAQs

Radon mitigation systems are designed to reduce indoor radon levels by up to 99%. Radon reduction systems should be designed and installed by experienced radon professionals to ensure that they are effective and functional.
Radon mitigation systems work by neutralizing negative pressure that draws gas into homes and buildings from the surrounding soil. These systems consist of a network of pipes and a fan to divert radon gas away from the foundation so it can be safely expelled outdoors.
Radon mitigation is recommended in homes and buildings that have indoor radon levels above 4 pCi/L. However, it is important to note that there is no truly safe level of radon. Radon mitigation systems will lower indoor radon levels as much as possible, and they can be installed in any home or building.
Radon mitigation systems have a minimal impact on energy usage in homes and buildings. They are very energy efficient and will not significantly increase utility costs.
Most radon mitigation systems are designed to last for decades without much maintenance or significant repairs. However, radon testing should take place every two years to ensure that a radon mitigation system is continuing to work properly.
Residential and commercial radon mitigation systems will typically have warning systems to alert users if there is a problem with the system that requires attention. Routine retesting is the most reliable way to ensure that your system is working as it should be. A functional radon mitigation system will consistently keep radon levels in the home comparable to outdoor radon levels.
Radon exposure is a significant health risk. Radon exposure is the leading risk factor for lung cancer among non-smokers, and it is the second most common risk factor among the general population. Radon mitigation is the only way to effectively reduce indoor radon levels.
When choosing a radon mitigation contractor, look for a company with years of experience in the field that installs systems compliant with ANSI / AARST and USEPA guidelines.
